Hat Contest - Updated Rules added
The Hat Contest Returns!!! For your hat to be judged go to the Registration desk by 4:00 pm. Friday and designate your hat category from one of the categories below. Judging will occur during Saturday’s cocktail hour.
All hat creations will use a named hosta as the starting point. (The specific hosta is NOT required in the design.) Each participant will enter his/her creation into one of four categories:
- Most creative interpretation of: “Singing the Blues”
- Most creative interpretation of: “Name That Tune”
- Most creative interpretation of: “A Southern Picnic”
- Most creative interpretation of: “It’s Cocktail Time”
First, Second, and Third ribbons will be awarded in each category. A “Best of Class ”will be chosen from the first place winners in the four above categories.
The Hat Contest Information:
How to enter. Contestant must register prior to Friday @ 4 p.m.
- Each entrant will be given 4 entry forms on which to write Class and name of hosta represented
- The attendee's convention registration number must also be written on the card.
- The Hat Contest will be held Saturday, June 15th during the evening Reception
- Four judges will be seated at tables in the Hotel Foyar from 5:30p until 6:45p.
- Each contestant is responsible for visiting each judge.
- No hats will be judged after 6:45p.
The Judges will use the following Criteria when considering the Hats:
- Does the hat fit the Class Name? (up to 10 points)
- How well does the design represent the hosta chosen by the exhibitor? (up to 10 points)
- Originality of Design? (up to 10 points)
- Execution of design? (up to 10 points)
- Is the hat Memorable/Distinct? (up to 10 points)
Total Points Possible = 50
Ribbons will be awarded to the winners in each Class:
- The Hats in Class 1 with the highest number of points = 1st place
- The Hats in Class 1 with the next highest number of points = 2nd place
- The Hats in Class 1 with the next highest number of points = 3rd place
- The Hats in Class 1 with the next highest number of points = 4th place
The process will be repeated for Class 2, Class 3, and Class 4
During the banquet, Winners will be asked to participate in a Parade of Hats and ribbons will be awarded.

Photography Contest
There are 4 classes that you may enter your photographs, they are:
The photograph contest rules are:
- Entries will be accepted Wednesday 10 am-12 pm and 3 pm-9 pm
- Each exhibitor may enter one entry in each Class above
- Photographs must be un-matted, and may be color, or black and white
- Size must not exceed 12 inches on the longest side
- Photographs can be as taken by the camera or edited by any photo processing program
- Photographs will be judged by local camera club members.
- Ribbons will be awarded in each Class.
- Entries will remain hanging until 5:15 pm on Saturday.
